Our teachers and directors cooperatively work together to prepare our learning environment. They bring many different strengths to our school and combine their talents to help Magothy develop and grow. Our Team are all CPR/ First Aide certified and attend professional development annually.
Mary Beth is the teacher of our Froggy Friends (2/3 year olds) & Fauna Friends (3 year olds). Mary Beth has been a teacher at Magothy since 2009. She holds a B.A. in Elementary Education from Goucher College (Towson, MD) and Masters of Education in Special Education from the University of Maryland. Mary Beth has also obtained the Maryland Advanced Professional Educator Certificate. Her certification areas are in Elementary Education 1-6 & Middle School, 90 hour Early Childhood Certification, also in Special Education Kindergarten-12. She is an active member of NAEYC. Mary Beth has had many years of experience in the preschool and elementary classroom both in Conneticut and in Maryland. She is the mother of three grown children. She loves reading, scrabble, swimming, the beach, playing with her dogs, getting together with friends, and traveling to New Orleans to visit her daughter. She loves all the wonderful families and teachers she works with at Magothy.
Dani is the teacher of our Flying Friends ( TTHF PreK) class. Dani has been a teacher at Magothy since 2012. She holds a B.S. in Veterinary Science From University of Arizona, Clear CLAD Teaching Credential (teaching second language learners) from National University, GATE Certified, and Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Chapman University. She taught kindergarten for 3 years and third grade for 9 years in California. While she loved teaching third graders, she feels her most creative and productive years were teaching kindergarten. Dani's daughter, now in middle school, attended PreK at MCP. She loves reading, running, spending time with her family, and exercising. Dani loves how we allow our children at Magothy to be their own person.
Kristin is the teacher of the Finned Friends (3/4 class) and Feathered Friends (MWF PreK). Kristin has her 90 hour Early Childhood Certification and a B.A. in Biology. Kristin started as a parent at Magothy in 2010. She was the teacher assistant for the Feathered Friend class in the 2012-2013 school year and has been the lead teacher for Finned Friends since then. Kristin has been an educator with Living Classrooms Foundation for two decades and the science teacher at Masonville Cove Environmental Education Center where she taught preschoolers about their natural world. She loves cooking, running, and being a mom of two growing boys. Kristin loves the children, our community and our commitment to providing a play-based and outdoor curriculum for our students.
Lindsay is the teacher of the Furry Friends (2 year old class), Flora Friends (3 year olds) and our school Director. Lindsay has her BA in Elementary Education with a concentration in Early Childhood Education from the College of Notre Dame of MD. She holds a MA in Reading Specialties from Walden University. Lindsay also has a MD Educator Certificate for PreK- Middle School. After a decade teaching kindergarten in Baltimore County Lindsay stepped out of the classroom to be at home with her two children. In 2013 she joined Magothy as a parent and quickly fell in love with the teaching model and team. In 2015 Lindsay joined the teaching staff. She loves Magothy because children’s innate curiosity for learning and discovery through play is respected and protected at Magothy.
Kenny is our Teacher Assistant for the Feathered & Finned Friends. After spending time in the classroom as a parent, Kenny has gone back to school, and is working on a teaching degree. At Magothy, he provides support for our teachers by leading small groups and helping children make the transition from home to school. He came to Magothy as a parent in 2011. Kenny is a parent of three young children. He enjoys scuba diving, bike riding, hiking and camping. Kenny says that he loves working at Magothy because he feels he is making a difference.
Kim is our Teacher Assistant for the Fauna Friends, Flora Friends, Froggy Friends & Furry Friends. Kim has been a TA at Magothy since 2010. Kim was a parent in our school before joining our staff. She served in leadership roles at Magothy as a parent. She provides support for our teachers by leading small groups and helping children make the transition from home to school. Ms. Kim is known for her soft heart and warm hugs. Kim loves crossword puzzles, reading, and cooking. Her daughter, now a college student, attended Magothy as a preschooler. When asked what she loves about Magothy, she said “What don’t I love about Magothy!”
Cat is one of our Teacher Assistants for Flying Friends. Cat has a B. S. in Communication from Syracuse University and a M.S. in Human Services /Community Counseling from SUNY Oswego. Cat joined the MCPS family as a parent in the spring of 2017; she joined the staff in the fall of 2018. Cat is the mama of two school aged boys. She loves to go on field trips, to explore new places, to read, and to hang out with awesome people. Her favorite part of the cooperative is the atmosphere of support and love that is fostered by the MCPS family.
Jen is the Friday Flying Friends Teacher’s Assistant. Jen has a B.S. in Marine Science from Rider University. After college, Jen spent almost 2 years working at The Seas Aquarium in Epcot at Walt Disney World teaching education programs, marine mammal training, scuba diving & doing sea turtle rehabilitation. Since 2002, Jen has worked in the education department at the National Aquarium. She joined the MCPS family first as a parent in 2014, then as a substitute in 2016, and the Forest School teacher’s assistant in 2017. Jen loves Magothy for its deep connection to nature, it’s green school attributes & especially connecting those elements to children & their families. Jen truly admires the Magothy staff and is so grateful for a cooperative community. She has 2 school aged sons & loves traveling, running, reading, & being on/near/in water.
Dave is our assistant director, helping out with the administrative tasks of the school. Dave has a B.A of Philosophy from UMBC. He has been part of the Magothy community since his oldest child started in 2012, and served on the board of directors for 5 years. After his children moved on to elementary school he decided to stay at Magothy. Dave enjoys designing and playing board games, gardening, and cooking. His favorite part of Magothy is how the community comes together to make everything happen.
